It’s been a long time I posted anytime technical in NSUers. Well here it is:

Everyone knows how awfully painful it is to share something between Vista and XP. But there is a easy way you can share anything without to go through the regular add user access steps.

In this scenario I will use 2 computers. 1st one is a Vista and 2nd one in XP. Lets say I want to share D:Games in Vista Computer.

This is what I did:

Created a shortcut for D:Games in Vista computer. Then Right-Click on the Shortcut link and selected Properties.

Changed the target location to //Vista/D$/Games.
Saved it. Moved this to Shared Documents folder. (This is the default shared location in Vista. It also appears in XP. Alternately you can moved the shortcut to any existing shared folder)

From the XP computer, browse the network, find the shortcut and bam! You’re in //Vista/D$/Games folder.

I tried this in P2P network and in Domain system. In Domain, you might have to type in your password/login. But this is mainly a Vista Sharing hack cause I am sick and tired of adding/editing groups/usernames.

enjoy. :)
